Glass in Venezuela. Glass is a translucent material and it has different uses in architecture. Around the world this material is used in building facades and like a structural material, but in Caracas, Venezuela, glass is mostly used in building facades, and a good example is “Parque Cristal”, near Altamira square. Here, Glass is not used as a structural material because we live in a tropical environment and its thermal properties are not good for Venezuela. It is important to mention that glass absorbs the sun's rays, producing heat and humidity. For this reason buildings in Caracas tend to use glass only on windows and details.
